Amorim has advised Onana to build on his performance

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has praised first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana for his satisfactory return to form, and believes he will be back in shape from now on.

Onana’s side came back from a setback in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final, beating Olympique Lyonnais 5-4 after extra time, having played a part in a 2-2 draw in France the previous week.

“I thought he did a great job, so he played a great game and kept that consistency,” he said at his pre-Wolves press conference on April 20.

“Personally, I am really happy with his performance because it was a difficult time, but we have to move forward.”

“He is now ready to fight for the next game.” 

The Cameroonian’s performance has been under heavy scrutiny after his errors gifted the French Ligue 1 side two goals in the 2-2 draw against United in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinal, first leg match last week.

The 29-year-old custodian was drop from the playing squad that lost 4-1 to Newcastle United in a Premier League match on Sunday. During the fixture at St. James’ Park, Altay Bayindir was prefer to start, but he too was far from convincing.
