Cardiff sack Riza as Ramsey takes charge

Wales captain Aaron Ramsey will become caretaker head coach at Cardiff City for the remainder of the 2024-25 season after the club parted ways with Omer Riza.

Ufabet Sport further reports that Riza was informed of the club’s decision after Friday’s defeat to Sheffield United. The team is currently 23rd in the standings, one point away from safety, with three matchdays remaining.

The former Arsenal midfielder’s team includes Chris Gunter, who has left his role as Wales Under-19 manager, and midfielder Joe Ralls. 

Gavin Ward will continue as goalkeeping coach, while Under-21s head coach Matt Bloxham and Under-18s manager Tom Hutton will join the technical staff. 

“We would like to thank Omer for his dedication and efforts during his time as Cardiff City manager,” the club said in a statement. 

“I wish him success in the next chapter of his career.” 

Ramsey has no professional managerial experience but has been praise by Wales manager Craig Bellamy as a potential successor to the club if he retires from coaching.  

The 86-cap international will be the third man in the Cardiff dugout this season, one that began with Erol Bulut at the helm before he was sack after picking up just one point from their opening six games as the club endure its worst ever start to a season.
